Kensington Banks
Kensington Banks
Kensington Banks was a joint venture between the Office of Major Projects, the City of Melbourne and Urban Pacific Ltd. The site of 38 hectares comprised the former Kensington Stock Yards as well as an Army Ordnance Depot. The development yielded approximately 1,000 dwellings at a density of more than 25 dwellings per hectare. A feature of the development was the allocation of 25% of the site to public open space including walking paths and a major park on the Maribyrnong River. The site was subdivided into a variety of lot sizes to allow a mix of detached housing and small scale unit developments by a select team of builders. The quality of the development was recognised by the bestowing of the UDIA Award for Excellence 1997 (President's Award) and the International Real Estate Federation FIABCI Prix d'Excellence Award for Masterplanned Development in 2006.
